TULAMBEN DIVE SITES
USAT LIBERTY WRECK
Our Tulamben shore dives will introduce you to the stunning, coral covered USAT Liberty wreck, a ship that was torpedoed in 1942 and towed to the beach at Tulamben.
In 1963, tremors from the eruption of the nearby volcano Gunung Agung, pushed the Liberty into the sea, providing us with very accessible and beautiful wreck dive. Starting at around 5 metres and going down to 28 metres, the Liberty wreck is wonderful during the day, for beginners and experienced divers alike.
If you have time, we recommend you talk to us about an overnight stay in Tulamben so you can enjoy a dawn dive with the Bumphead Parrot Fish that visit the wreck in the early mornings, it’s also worth the opportunity to see the wreck at night.
Depth: 2-30m
Current: mild – strong, but dies off quickly
Temperature: 27-29 degrees
The Drop Off
The ominously name Drop Off at Tulamben is a stunning wall dive, a perfect way to round at your day at Tulamben.
Enjoy the stunning coral or look for octopus, cuttlefish and ghost pipe fish hiding in the nooks and crannies, maybe hang out with a turtle in the shallows of the reef or see a reef shark in the blue.
We love ending the dive here with the big shoal of yellow striped scad chilling at around 3-5 metres.
Depth: 2-40m
Current: rarely
Temperature: 27-29 degrees
Coral Garden
If macro is your thing, make sure you book in for three dives at Tulamben so we can take you to explore the Coral Garden in between the wreck and the Drop Off. We often see reef sharks off in the blue, but the money shot here is the small stuff.
Nudibranchs, pygmy seahorse, boxer crabs, harlequin shrimps sometimes even mimic octopus – you name it, we can find it. There are also some interesting statues at around 10m where you can have a play in the shallows.
Depth: 2-30m
Current: mild
Temperature: 27-29 degrees
