MENJANGAN ISLAND DIVING
Would you like to go diving or snorkeling in Menjangan Island Bali? Due to the distance from south Bali ( a 4+ hour drive) we do not recommend this as a day trip, but rather include this in one of our dive packages. The walls and reefs in Menjangan National park are really stunning and are suited for all experience levels.
With a really early start and if you don’t mind coming back late to Sanur, we can run it as a day trip, hence we leave the option in here for you. Please don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss this option further.
Menjangan Island is part of the Bali Barat National Park. The waters are clear and calm with a rich variety of fish. For those who appreciate wall diving, the dive sites around Menjangan Island are a must. The walls descend to varying depths and offer an abundance of Gorgonian fans and colorful reef. Fringing the island are shallow reefs with beautiful corals, both divers and snorkelers will love it here.
Diving is by boat.
DIVE SITES & INFO
Bat Cave Dive Site
- This site is named after the small bats that inhabit these caves situated on the east coast of Menjangan Island. These caves are very easy and safe to explore, the narrow entrance lies at around 18 metres where it quickly opens into a large cavern full of window openings to the surface. This beautiful play of light makes wide-angle photo opportunities especially with the morning light which creates a very dramatic effect. The surrounding walls are covered with electric clams, Ctenoides ales, nudibranch and blennies living among the corals and tube sponges.

The Channel Dive Site
- This narrow channel leading to Mimpi Resort on the mainland is famous for its Mandarin fish. The hard corals grow in tower-like structures and create a unique and perfect surrounding for this shy and sort after dragonet. The best time to observe this beautiful and shy fish is at sunset when they come out of the reef in search of a mate! Stay nice and shallow between 5-10 metres where the colours and light are the most beautiful.

Secret Bay Dive Site
- Located opposite the harbour of Gilimanuk, Secret Bay is another of Bali’s unique shore dives, offering great potential for new discoveries and fantastic macro photography. Because of the cold and warm water flowing through the channel you will find a unique blend of tropical Indian and Pacific ocean species. The combination of black sand and sea grass slopes create the perfect hunting ground for critters such as; seahorses, nudibranch, dragonets, Pegasus seamoths, ghostpipe fish, scorpionfish and frogfish.

Follow the anchor chain down the steep slope to the remains of a shipwreck which lies around 35-40m. The parts of the boat which remain out of the sand are covered in gorgonian seafans which are home to pygmy seahorses or maybe longnose hawk fish. Check out the artifacts, (not souvenirs) from this boat’s cargo, old bottles copper sheeting and other bits and bobs that lie around the sunken ship. Shallowing up to the west, at 7-20 metres is a wall rich with fish action, reef sharks, giant trevally and dogtooth tuna come in to feed off the smaller schooling fish.
